tildé [tin-sul til-day] tiñsel tildé formed out of the burgeoning
alternative rock scene in NYC in early 2002 and soon began playing out
in clubs and bars to amassing interest. The duo at the core of tiñsel
tildé, Rob Lucente and Lenny Tafro, had begun their collaboration
in a previous Bay-Area based quasi-jam-band, Twenty Twelve, while both
were living in San Francisco in the late 90s. The pair felt limited
by the jam-band genre's focus on expansive instrumental excursions without
attention to songcraft and lyric, and soon headed back to New York City,
where a new indie rock scene was exploding, mashing up the 70's and
80's most interesting and seminal left-of-center bands with a current
look towards experimentalism, genre-blending, and appreciative yet aloof
tribute.
The two realized
that their penchant for songcraft with deft hooks and meaningful
content could be an asset instead of a liability, and forged ahead
to record a sweeping demo EP, "Day of Reckoning". tiñsel
tildé threw all of their musical tastes into the mix, from
the East-Asian sounds and instrumentation of their neo-hippie roots
to the dark electronic density of newrave culture and the
rootsy, Americana rock that naturally flows from their pens and
strings without pretense or effort. ::
